After a spam wave you don't want to delete forty messages by hand. Reply to the first one with /purge and Marina removes it and everything after it, up to 1,000 messages at a time.
Four ways to clean up#
- /purge deletes from the replied message down to your command. Add a number to delete only that many, and words to give a reason.
- /spurge does the same without the "Deleted N messages" notice.
- /del deletes just the one message you reply to.
- /purgefrom and /purgeto mark the two ends of a range somewhere in the middle of the chat.
Fast when it matters#
Admins' /del, /purge and /spurge skip the queue. Even when Telegram is slowing Marina down in a busy group, they run straight away.
Commands#
Admins
/purge [count] [reason]
Reply to a message: delete it and everything after it, or only that many messages.
/spurge [count]
Like /purge, without the notice.
/del
Reply to a message to delete just that one.
/purgefrom
Reply to the first message of a range to mark it. The command disappears straight away.
/purgeto
Reply to the other end to delete the whole range, both ends included.
Examples#
/purge
As a reply: clear everything from there to now.
/purge 20
As a reply: clear 20 messages starting there.
/purge spam wave
As a reply: clear and give a reason.
Good to know#
- You and Marina both need the Delete messages right.
- Telegram only lets bots delete messages from the last 48 hours, so older ones are refused up front.
- Bulk deletion needs a supergroup. /del works anywhere.
- A /purgefrom mark expires after 10 minutes. The other end can be older or newer.
- In forum groups a range covers the whole group, not just one topic.
- The "Deleted N messages" notice stays;
/cleanmsg actiontidies it away.
