Bans

14 commandsModerationOpen in Telegram

The everyday tools for keeping order. A ban removes someone for good (or for a while), a kick removes them but lets them come back, and a mute keeps them in the group but quiet.

Pick the right flavour#

Every action comes in a few versions:

  • Timed: /tban and /tmute take a time like 2h or 3d. Plain /ban and /mute take one too.
  • Delete: /dban, /dmute and /dkick act on the sender of the message you reply to and delete that message.
  • Silent: /sban, /smute and /skick delete your command and post nothing. The log channel still records it.

Undo in one tap#

Every ban and mute notice carries an Unban or Unmute button. Admins with the Ban users right can tap it to fix a mistake, and the log channel notes who lifted it. The same button appears on automatic punishments from antiflood, blocklists, locks and warnings.

Banning people who aren't there yet#

Telegram doesn't let bots ban an id that has never been in the group. Marina remembers the ban instead and applies it the moment they join or post. /unban cancels it.

Commands#

Everyone

/kickme
Leave the group. You can come back any time. Not for admins.

Admins

/tban <user> <time> [reason]

/dban [time] [reason]
Reply to a message: ban its sender and delete it.
/sban <user> [time] [reason]
Bans without a notice in the chat.
/unban <user>
Lifts a ban. Works on channels too.
/mute <user> [time] [reason]
Stops someone from sending messages. They can still read.
/tmute <user> <time> [reason]
Mutes for a set time.
/dmute [time] [reason]
Reply to a message: mute its sender and delete it.
/smute <user> [time] [reason]
Mutes without a notice.
/unmute <user>
Lets a muted member talk again.
/kick <user> [reason]
Removes someone without banning them.
/dkick [reason]
Reply to a message: kick its sender and delete it.
/skick <user> [reason]
Kicks without a notice.

Examples#

/tmute @someone 2h
Mute for two hours.
/sban 1234 2d
Quietly ban user 1234 for two days.
/dban spam links
As a reply: ban, delete, and give a reason.

Good to know#

  • Times look like 30s, 4m, 3h, 6d, 5w or 1h30m, from 30 seconds to 366 days. 0m means permanent.
  • Marina never acts on admins, the group owner or herself. Channels can be banned and unbanned, but not kicked or muted.
  • You and Marina both need the Ban users right. The delete and silent versions also need Delete messages.
